preference

I have liked to read since I was a little kid and I have always had a thing for adventure and survival books. I always loved to see how other people had beat the odds of survival and come through. The most memorable books I read would probably have to be the Hatchet trilogy by Gary Paulsen. I have read those books more times than I can count and I always pick up something new every time. I also like reading classic adventure stories and short stories like "To build a Fire" and pretty much anything Jack London and even Hemingway's Old Man and the Sea. When I was really young I would read a series called "My side of the Mountain" by Jean Craighead George but those were a little childish. However, as far as writing goes I don't think I have ever written anything by choice except for a small journal and songs. I just don't express myself through writing very much actually come to think of it I don't express myself much at all. I honestly don't feel the need to and if I do I often end up writing a song of some sort. I love to read these stories because they are extreme and they reveal the true character of a person through tough times. These survival stories have always grabbed my attention and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading them. I think I became a reader because books always left just enough room for my imagination and that is without a doubt my favorite part about reading using my imagination. That is why when a book that I like gets made into a movie I will rarely go see it because that ruins the part of the story that I had imagined. I also never write in the books I read unless they are textbooks because i believe that they are the way the author intended them to be and so I like to leave them that way. It does not bother me to write in books it is just not my preference. Another one of my favorite parts about reading is no matter how much crap you have going on or how busy you are you can always lose yourself in a book. When your caught up is someone elses story it is really hard to worry about your own problems. So potentially every time you pick up a book you take a vacation for just a little while. A book can take you farther away faster than anything else on earth and that is why reading is so valuable.

Great Expectations

This semester on a whole has been a good one for me my grades are decent and none of my professors are too bad. So this semester it has been a little easier for me to relax because I am not fighting my way out of bad grades. However, school is just as monotonous for me I have very little interest in the so called college experience I always remember that I am here to get an education and the less time that takes me the happier I am. I have been trying to make the most of the time that I have to be here though if I am going to get an education I guess I migh as well learn something along the way right? I have been learning though this semester noticeably more information than last semester namely in Chemistry , Accounting, and MIS. In chemistry the thing that stands out in my mind would definitely be the consumption and use of energy while looking at efficient or inefficient chemical reactions. The effenciency of gasoline (as so few people realize) is remarkably low only 20% of the energy caused by the combustion of gasoline is used to power the car the remaining energy is simply given off as heat. I never realized how ineffecient gasoline is as an energy source for cars and I am shocked the problem has only recently begun to be addressed. My Accounting class has been slightly practical because it is always good to know how to keep up with money and transactions I just wish it did not have to be so complicated. My MIS class I really cant stand but I know that knowing my way around a computer is necessary for success in today's high technology society. I just really don't like messing with a computer for any extended period of time not mention that I am not very good with them. I have been frustrated this semester with a few things one of them is my Accounting teacher bless his heart he tries but he is from China and he is hard to understand 90% of the time. This is very frustrating because Accounting is no joke there are lots of concepts and lots of details and everything is cumulative so if you dont get a concept it can come back to haunt you later on. Not to mention the man is the reigning speed talking champion of the western hemisphere. However, all in all I cant complain about this semester because it is going pretty well. The only things i would change if I could go back would be to stay on top of all my daily assignments but lesson learned. I know I will get a high quality education from the University but to be honest my chosen career only requires that you have a 4 year degree they dont care what in it could be in Under water basket weaving for all they care they just want to see that piece of paper. However I do have a desire to learn while I am here I dont want this to be wasted time or money. I do have a degree of curiosity and it is interesting to me when I see how my perspective changes when i learn something new. So that drive keeps me coming back to school day in day out semester after semester.
