The commercials were interesting because it is amazing what you see in commercials when you actually pay attention. Most of the time the commercial is a shallow meaningless and overused scream for the viewers attention. Three of these commercials fit that bill. Two of them used sex as the basis for their ad and in both cases the product had absolutely nothing to do with sex. However, as everyone knows sex sells. I think the Wii vs. Playstation 3 was the perfect example of this. A video game console has nothing to do with a ditzy blonde in her barely-there clothes dancing and smacking her own butt. But,(no pun intended) I garuntee you that any guy who watched that commercial gave it his full undivided attention. I think its sad,and slightly funny, that many companies today choose to advertise something completely unrelated to their product just to sell their product. It is like the product is not good enough to sell itself so then they advertise some form of sex or a hot girl in a bikini and they cannot keep it on the shelves.
On the other side of the coin I loved the Dove commercial. The commercial is proof that beauty is skin deep. This commercial was great because it exposes the unrealistic perception of beauty that has swept across America since photoshop came about. I think that the concept of digital editing has taken away the value for individuality. All the faces in magazines are annoyingly flawless. Digital editing has taken away the small personal imperfections that make us who we are. The dove commercial showed the stages of making someone beautiful. The almost attractive woman sits down then she has make up put on and she is exceptionally pretty then the pictures are taken. After that the editor goes in and tries to make her perfect. That woman did not need digital editing in the slightest. However, the editor did not think that she was up to par with perfection so he went in and changed a few things. I think what Dove did with this commercial was great. This commercial could have an impact on a young lady who feels so much pressure to look a certain way when the people she is trying look like are not as perfect as they seem. Bravo to Dove for producing a unique and intresting commercial. Boo to the other three for giving me the same thing as everyone else
